Gordon Watson, part owner of the private cowshare co-op OUR Cows Inc., and Michael Schmidt, the agistment (cow keeper) for the co-op, have been battling the government for years to legalize raw milk in Canada. Raw milk – REAL milk – that has not been tainted by industrialized processes, is legal and popular throughout the world, yet banned in Canada. We commend Watson and Schmidt for their hard work and personal sacrifices to help bring Canada out of the dark ages of ignorance and government / corporate control. National Absurder: A Brief History of TV
“Good evening. I am Stephen Hawking. Tonight I will explain my Theory of Relative TV. Queen Victoria’s husband, Prince Albert, was a visionary. He once commissioned a study to see if it was possible to transmit pictures and sound through the air to be seen at another location through a viewing box. He concluded that the technologies were not yet available to accomplish such a feat. However, the task had been set in motion, and some decades later television was invented. First it was Black and White TV, and then color TV. Today we have cathode ray TV, LCD TV, plasma TV, and projection TV. Ralph Kramden finally has his 3-D TV. But so much of today’s 3-D is artificial, similar to early colorization. It’s a neat trick, but imperfect. Sound quality has not advanced as rapidly as picture quality. Speakers are still small. Digitized sound, like MP3 compression, sucks the big one. But none of this really matters. Notice the immense popularity of such low quality video such as Skype, phone cameras, and amateur on line videos. High end TV is a sham, important only for social status, bragging rights, and corporate profit. TV quality has in fact exceeded its practical purposes. Unless the picture and sound are distractingly bad, they are quickly ignored, no longer noticed after the first few moments of appreciation. Ultimately, the only quality that counts is in content. Well produced content looks good on any TV. I leave you now with a fine example of quality TV production.”

Culture Guard demands probe of gay pornography in schools
VANCOUVER, Sept. 15, 2011 (Culture Guard) — Gay pornography is being promoted in some BC schools under the guise of “anti-bullying” programs, RoadKill Radio co-host Kari Simpson charged yesterday at a news conference called by Culture Guard, an organization to promote citizen activism.
After revealing that online gay porn videos and other forms of pornography are being promoted in some BC schools by an “anti-bullying” program called Out In Schools, Mrs. Simpson took her evidence to the Vancouver Police to file citizen complaints of possible Criminal Code violations by Out in Schools and the Queer Film Festival. Those complaints include Internet luring of children; exposing children to pornography; and possible fraud, by obtaining money from corporate donors to the program under false pretenses. She also named the BC Teachers’ Federation and the Vancouver School Board in the complaints.
[Update: Click here to see how the complaint was rejected by the receiving officer!]
Out in Schools was written by Romi Chandra, the domestic partner of NDP MLA Spencer Chandra Herbert. Mrs. Simpson said that in addition to money obtained by the program from corporate sponsors, more than $370,000 of taxpayers’ money had been contributed by the provincial government. Out in Schools is already being used in schools in Vancouver, Burnaby, and Haida Gwaii.
The list of “student resources” in the teachers’ guide, purchased by school boards and apparently approved by the Ministry of Education, includes Health Initiative for Men, an Internet web-site that includes videos of gay pornography. The BCTF has endorsed the program.
One of the activities under the so-called “anti-bullying” program invites students to create a short “anti-homophobia” video to be used as a public service announcement, and to enter their videos in a contest run by “Out On Screens.” The winning PSAs are promised prizes and public recognition at a presentation ceremony. That ceremony is, in fact, to be held in conjunction with Vancouver’s Queer Film Festival, an annual porn-fest.
Students who attend the PSA awards ceremony are also invited to a “Fierce and Fabulous Under-25 party” that includes playing “Lesbian Debauchery”, described by the QFF as “a dirty drinking game.” Displays of gay pornography are evident at the party and awards presentation.
Out in Schools says it is intended for secondary school students, but Culture Guard has obtained photographic evidence of it being presented at elementary schools by Out in Schools facilitators Ross Johnstone and Jen “Jenderfuck” Sung.
Also participating at the news conference were representatives of Parents’ Voice, organized this summer to challenge questionable materials being introduced into Burnaby schools; and Take Back Our Schools, a consortium of four BC groups concerned about students, families and parents’ rights.

Money should be spent on services
By Terry O’Neill – The Tri-City News
He haunts us still. Gordon Campbell, that is. The former premier may be packing his bags for London, but, for better or worse, he is leaving his tax polices behind.
We all know about the slender thread by which the controversial HST currently hangs. Less well-known but no less significant is Campbell’s carbon tax, which jumped by more than a penny at the beginning of the month and now adds five-and-a-half cents to the cost of every litre of gasoline that motorists buy at the pumps.
Unlike last week’s proposal by Metro Vancouver mayors to levy a two-cent gas tax to help pay for the Evergreen Line, the carbon tax accomplishes little. In fact, it now seems to have been less about improving the province’s environment and more about improving Campbell’s image, so he could cast himself as a Schwarzenegger-worthy green crusader.
While it’s admirable that the B.C. Liberals cut personal and corporate tax rates to offset the extra burden created by the carbon taxes they heaped onto on gasoline and other fuels, the green levies simply aren’t having the effect they were designed to have.
In the key area of automobile usage, for example, the higher pump price caused by the carbon tax was supposed to force B.C. motorists to drive less. But this hasn’t happened, meaning there’s been no benefit to the environment. Instead, British Columbians have simply had to divert more of their income to pay for transportation.
Thanks to Campbell’s machinations, the B.C. Liberal government’s entire energy policy is a mess. He stuck B.C. Hydro with bad deals forcing it to pay astronomical prices for alternative energy, and Hydro’s billion-dollar “smart meter” program is an extravagant and needless exercise in eco-political correctness.
And let’s not forget that, in a misguided desire to see the government become ‘carbon neutral,’ Victoria is forcing public institutions, such as school districts and municipal governments, to buy ‘carbon offsets,’ primarily from private corporations. The Fraser Health Authority, for example, has had to spend almost $1 million on such offsets.
Surely, this money would be better spent in reducing waiting times in the Emergency Room than on a program that amounts to little more than carnival shell game in which the consumer and taxpayer always seem to lose.
Get over it and vote for HST
By Terry O’Neill –
Published by The Tri-City News: June 03, 2011
FACE TO FACE: Which way will they vote in B.C.’s HST referendum?
There comes a time in some lovers’ quarrels when the aggrieved party’s feelings are so hurt that he or she simply refuses to hear another word, even if that word is an apology, a promise from the offender to make things better or actual evidence of action to set things right.
Welcome to the Great HST Debate.
Understandably, many British Columbians were angered and insulted not only by the manner in which the BC Liberal government introduced the tax but also by the nature of the harmonized sales tax itself.
But many of my fellow taxpayers now seem to be incapable of reversing their opposition to this revenue-generating measure, even though the government has admitted it made many errors in introducing the tax and has taken steps to make things better.
Count my colleague as one of the many provincial taxpayers who is never going to forgive, never going to forget and never going to vote in favour of the HST in this month’s referendum. I suspect his deep-rooted aversion to centrist or centre-right political parties has more than a little to do with his stubbornness.
On the other hand, while I am disinclined to support measures that put the government’s hand deeper into my pocket, I’ve long considered the HST to represent solid fiscal policy and I still believe (as do most economists) that its implementation will lead to more job- and wealth-creation in the province — and that’s good for everyone, consumers and businesses alike.
Now that Finance Minister Kevin Falcon has addressed the tax-paying public’s major concerns about the HST — by promising to phase in a reduction of the tax to 10% from the current 12% and by increasing the corporate income tax rate by 2% — the HST seems to be even more of a win-win.
What’s especially significant is that, under the changes, average British Columbians will enjoy both a short-term benefit (no $350 tax shift) and a long-term one (increased GDP attributable to the efficiencies associated with the HST).
And so I will be voting to preserve the HST.
But if you still have a need to fight against a stupid and destructive revenue-generating measure, take aim at the carbon tax. It deserves to die, sooner rather than later.
An award-winning journalist, a writer with Edmonton’s Report Magazine and Toronto’s Catholic Insight magazine, and co-host of RoadKillRadio.com, Face to Face columnist Terry O’Neill is a long-time Coquitlam resident who sits on the board of the Coquitlam Foundation and chairs the finance committee of St. Joseph’s Catholic parish.
Does the PM read RKR News?
Is someone on Stephen Harper’s strategy team reading RoadKill Radio News? Maybe; maybe not; but the Prime Minister’s latest campaign announcement sounds a lot like a recent commentary here.
The PM says if he wins a majority, he’ll end all taxpayer subsidies to political parties. In addition, other Tory spokesmen have said unions and corporations should not be allowed to make political donations. Why not? Because they’re dealing with other people’s money: funds that properly belong to union members or corporate shareholders—and not all of them will agree with management’s political use of their money.
That sounds like a direct quote from a commentary posted here last month!
Thomas Jefferson wrote, “It is tyrannical to compel a man to pay for the promulgation of ideas with which he does not agree.” To force taxpayers to support political parties whose policies they find repugnant, is tyranny!
But that’s what happens now: every Canadian taxpayer gives $2 a year to support political parties according to a formula devised by who? The four parties in the House of Commons! They divide about $30 million a year of your money among themselves, plus (sometimes) the Green Party.
Hmm RoadKill Radio thinks this is a good plan!! Axe this political tax!
Terry O’Neill’s Evil Commentary
Does anyone other than a dwindling minority of Procrustean traditionalists recognize evil anymore—personal evil, that is? Oh, sure, there’s plenty of the geopolitical variety to go around these days, especially in North Africa. And there’s more than enough being identified on the national stage by perpetually outraged critics within this country too, most notably by those on the political left, who eagerly attach the E word to everything from corporate profits and free trade to the oil sands and Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s piano playing.
But we rarely hear about individual Canadians doing “bad” things, exhibiting sinister behavior, acting wickedly, or carrying on immorally, let alone sinning.
Instead, there’s always some sort of exculpating explanation for bad behaviour. Shoplifters suffer from kleptomania; corrupt officials have succumbed to stress or have manifested a previously undiagnosed psychiatric disorder; prostitutes are victims of the patriarchy, poverty or both; juvenile delinquents are the recipients of inadequate parenting; inner-city gangsters are victims of racial discrimination; and thieves are impoverished or addicted, and, if the latter, are surely not responsible for the burden of the illness under which they are labouring. You get the picture.
Look at the website promoting the recent Pink Shirt Day/anti-bullying campaign—a cause that should easily give rise to descriptions of bullies acting wickedly, etc.—and you’ll see therapeutic twaddle aplenty along with much vigorous exhortation to get to the root of the problem, etc., but nothing about the plain and simple fact bullies are acting immorally.
Which brings me to Exhibit A, otherwise known as the spark that gave life to this particular column. You might have heard of a horrible hit-and-run accident in Coquitlam, B.C., two weeks ago which left two young women dead. In covering the aftermath of the crash, which included the laying of several charges against a suspect, including two counts of impaired driving causing death, a local newspaper turned to a clinical psychologist from Simon Fraser University for some “insight” into “what might lead someone to flee the scene” of a serious accident without giving help.
Dr. Joti Samra is quoted thusly: “Assuming that it’s a true accident, the reality is… even from the perspective of the person that caused the accident, it can be quite traumatic and cause an acute stress reaction.” Got that? Acute stress reaction.
The good doctor goes on to explain that the brain could be flooded with information and emotion that would cause a person to act unusually. “The fight or flight response is something we’re exposed to when we are faced with extreme traumatic events,” Dr. Samra concludes. “Our body kind of goes into a shock, it doesn’t know what to do.”
Notice the focus on the culprit’s body and not his mind? I suppose it’s true that this human-as-hormonal-machine answer is what you’d expect from a clinical psychologist, whose business, of course, is to produce exactly this sort of pseudo-scientific analysis. But there’s no excuse for the news media to limit their probing into human behaviour to “experts” such as Dr. Samra. Why not someone with some grasp of the profundity of human existence, someone like a novelist, a moral philosopher or a religious leader– someone who recognizes we’re more than just pre-programmed biological machines?
To my mind, it would be a welcome relief—and far more enlightening—to hear some real insights into moral character, the dark origins of personal cowardice, or the nature of evil in circumstances such as these. And so, for example, when asked why a driver might flee the scene of an accident in which he had struck two innocent people, a priest might comment that such a person had become alienated from God, had too easily succumbed to temptation, and had become a sinner in need of redemption.
This would be really useful information as far as I’m concerned, and might also help many readers reflect more deeply on their responsibility—indeed, their duty—to act in a moral fashion.
But, of course, in this secular, humanistic era of ours, we see very little serious discussion about evil in the public square. Perversely, one is more likely to find scintillatingly descriptive words, purring about the concept of evil, in advertisements attempting to induce a consumer to indulge in some sort of deliciously sinful wickedness for an affordable price. Moral inversion to sell chocolate pudding.
A recent full-page newspaper advertisement for Volvo is a perfect example of this lamentable trend. Emblazoned above an image of a shiny red S60 model, the ad copy informs us, “There’s more to life than a Volvo. Like raising a little hell with 300 horses, spanking corners with your all-new sport-tuned chassis. And feeling a little dangerous in a car tricked out with safety technology. That’s why you drive the all-new naughty Volvo S60.” (Emphasis added.)
A 16th-Century proverb holds, “Evil doers are evil dreaders.” Today, however, evil doers are either the next patient for the couch or a target market.
Got your second job yet? Your third? BC Hydro rates to rise 50% in 5 years!
In-studio guest Chris Delaney, leader of the new BC First Party, said on the March 1 broadcast of RoadKill Radio that corporatist policies of the Campbell government are behind the announcement that BC Hydro needs to raise rates 50 percent over the next five years.
“It’s combination of issues,” said Chris Delaney. “The Liberals’ 3P policy, and their commitment to privatization; run-of-river; the ‘green’ agenda…
“There’s nothing as green as hydro power, in terms of emissions. The only problem with ‘run-of-river’ is that they’re giving it to GE and other American companies…. And the price they pay for it is double what’s on the market… Sometimes, BC Hydro is paying nine times as much…
“I have to give credit to Rafe Mair and others, who have been on this issue for a long time…
“We think they (the BC Liberals) re trying to destroy the company, then unload it. They mean to set it up to become a loss… They did the same thing with BC Rail.”
Kari Simpson asked, “Shouldn’t BC’s resources be for British Columbians? Why sell them off to American companies?”
Chris Delaney replied: “It shows the influence of the big business lobby on the Liberal Party… I’m not anti-corporation—there are benefits. But the greater benefit of the province’s resources should come to British Columbians…
“Why would you sell BC Rail to an American company? Why wouldn’t you sell it to CP? They sold BC Rail for $1 billion; but it’s been estimated that the value of the right-of-way alone is over $7 billion.”
