Don Spratt has spent 30 years defending the supposedly "constitutionally-guaranteed" right to life of those who cannot speak for themselves: pre-born children. Some pastors criticized his tactics, but said: "If they ever said we couldn't preach the Gospel, I'd stand with you!" But when Spratt preached forgiveness of sins to abortion-mill staff… he was sent to jail. And where were the promised "supporters"? Nowhere to be seen! To defend Canadians' Charter rights of free speech, Don Spratt and Cissy von Dehn distributed copies of BC's infamous "Bubble Zone" law—and were convicted of breaking the very law they were publicising!

Mark Hasiuk interviews Joe Trasolini, the NDP MLA for Port Moody-Coquitlam. The main topic today is the plan to spend – or should we say over-spend – more than $144,000,000 taxpayer dollars to renovate certain downtown "fleabag" hotels to use as low income housing. As the official Opposition Critic for Housing, Construction, and Business Development, Mr. Trasolini has major problems with this plan, and suggests much more reasonable alternatives. Why is BC Housing Minister Rich Coleman once again rejecting common sense?

It seems that Bill Flanagan, president of the Council of Canadian Law Deans, is opposed to the establishment of a law school at a highly respected Christian university.

Flanagan sent out a hysterical letter to his cohorts, attempting to galvanize opposition to Trinity Western University’s decision to once again expand the educational opportunities available to its students, to now include a law school.

TWU is no stranger to deconstructionists attempting to usurp the rights of the civil majority by demonizing constitutionally-protected beliefs, opinions, practices and associations; a few years ago, the Langley university had to battle cultural terrorists from the BC College of Teachers all the way to the Supreme Court of Canada, when they wanted students enrolled in TWU’s School of Education to be certified to teach in BC schools.

Of course, TWU won.

Mr. Flanagan and his gaggle of law deans are now squawk-boxing their repulsion about the code of conduct requirements that students agree to. Students wanting to attend TWU agree not to engage in swearing, profanity, drunkenness, porn-viewing, adultery, premarital… or sexual orgies/activities that seem to be sanctioned by secular universities like the University of Toronto; but the proviso that really has their pork stewing in the pit is the agreement students make not to engage in (gasp!) homosexuality.

Oh my! Imagine a school when civility, morality and sexual health are encouraged!

Ron Gray reports on today's BC Court of Appeal case in which Don Spratt and Sissy von Dehn attempt to overturn their conviction. Because they were educating passersby about British Columbia's "bubble zone" law (areas near abortion clinics where the free speech of citizens is suppressed), Spratt and von Dehn were convicted of breaking the same bubble zone law! How would people know about a law unless it's advertised? Tune in for this quick update!

Dear friends of life and liberty:

Hopefully you had a blessed Christmas and New Year’s season.

Now as 2013 begins, I must return to the front lines of the culture wars in defence of innocent human life and our God-given liberties, which are increasingly under attack each passing day. A battle field I must return to is in the courts. I must report in person to my probation officer on January 17 and will be in court the next day.

Therefore, I’m writing you to ask for your support in my upcoming hearing in the BC Court of Appeal on Friday, January 18 at 10 AM.

The courthouse is located at: 400 – 800 Hornby Street, Vancouver, BC.

Sissy von Dehn is my co-appellant seeking to have our convictions overturned that resulted from our being arrested on June 19, 2009, this time for informing the public in a BC bubble zone that they could be arrested for saying anything against abortion. We were actually arrested, convicted and sentenced to two years probation and fines for passing out copies of the Access to Abortion Services Act.

National Absurder: New Year’s Resolution-A-Rama

Resolution

Most of us toy with making New Year’s resolutions, many of us state them outright, but a scarce few of us actually succeed in our resolve. Maybe if we scaled down our lofty self-promises, we’d have some bragging rights by the end of the year.

The main trick is to be realistic about your resolutions. Truth, justice, and the American way are a never-ending battle for even Superman, so lower your sights.

And narrow your scope; a single resolution would be infinitely easier to accomplish than a litany of self-improvements. If you try to quit smoking, drinking, and overeating all at once, you’ll certainly fail – if you don’t kill yourself first! Pick one at a time. Make sure it sticks before you move on to the next hurdle.

Be patient. It’s a New Year’s resolution, after all, so give it up to a year to see it through. Pace yourself.

Once you choose a resolution, refine it by establishing goals. “Lose weight” is a lofty resolution, but “Lose one pound a week for 10 weeks” is a realistic goal.

We should keep the number of resolutions to a minimum. Use my chart below, adding possible resolutions to what’s already there. If you like, rearrange the column categories from Easy, Moderate and Difficult to something like Mind, Body and Spirit or Short-Term, Mid-Term and Long-Term.

Then choose only one from Column A, and/or one from Column B, and/or one from Column C. That should be manageable. Good luck!

• Become better organized
• Become greener
• Create personal budget
• Develop hobby
• Learn something new
• Read more
• Talk less, listen more
• Watch less TV
• Write a daily diary
• Donate $10 a month to RoadKill Radio

Moderate:

• Donate to charity
• Eat better
• Exercise more
• Get a (better) job
• Help people
• Play more
• Save money
• Spend more time with family
• Travel more
• Donate $50 a month to RoadKill Radio

Difficult:

• Lose weight
• Move
• Quit drinking
• Quit smoking
• Reduce stress
• Reduce/eliminate debt
• Settle down
• Simplify life
• Work more
• Donate $100 a month to RoadKill Radio

As you might have guessed from my lists, my New Year’s Resolution is to get more people to support RoadKill Radio.

Oliver Capko joins Kari Simpson and Ron Gray to talk about the challenges of having to educate some university student groups about the Charter Protected Rights of individuals. Oliver is a first year agriculture student at Langley’s Kwantlen Polytechnic University that is giving a crash course in LAW 101 to the Kwantlen Student Association after they refused to give club status to his pro-life group! The outrage is that public money is used to fund these so-called institutions of higher learning! It is a tragic commentary that university students fail to understand that in Canada we have the right to have differing opinions and that Student Associations are prohibited from discriminating against some groups because they value the protection of human life! What are they teaching these students?

Oliver Capko, student at Kwantlen Polytechnic University in Langley, BC, is fighting for the right to form a pro-choice club on his campus. The student association has denied his request for club status based on their “official” pro-abortion stance. While Colleges and Universities were once institutions of higher learning and free exchange of ideas, they now seem to have devolved into cesspools of political correctness and institutionalized prejudice. Mr. Capko is keeping the spirit of Free Speech and Free Association alive with his fight against this censorship.

Ron Gray steers Drive For Justice into the courtroom of the British Columbia Court of Appeal, where Rafe Mair's inexplicable exoneration by "Justice" M. Marvyn Koenigsberg was decidedly overturned by Justices Southin, Thackray, and Prowse. Kari Simpson wins her case against Rafe Mair, who was found guilty of malicious libel.
